FLY CONTROL

There are many different species of fly that may cause problems in your property. Common pest species include fruit flies, blue bottles, and common and lesser houseflies.  Fruit flies are usually found near rotting food sources or around spilt alcoholic drinks, milk and fruit juices. Blue bottles feed exclusively on meat and will lay their eggs in whatever they’re feeding on. Blue bottle larvae are more commonly known as maggots. Houseflies are usually found near their food sources, often rotting food; they may be active indoors throughout the year, especially in warm houses.  Adult flies like to lay their eggs in moist, putrefying material that will provide an easy source of food for the larvae once they hatch.

Why are they such a problem?

This depends on the species of fly and their habits. Some species, such as cluster flies, are merely unsightly and do not pose a significant threat to human health. However, some types, such as houseflies, carry diseases (e.g. dysentery and gasteroenteritis) since they constantly move between different food sources and carry disease-causing germs.

How did a problem occur?

Flies often enter buildings through open windows. Generally flies may occur in the building and go unseen; only when drinks or food stuffs are left for sufficient time to accommodate a breeding cycle will a significant infestation occur.

Control and treatment.

This is best achieved by removing their food source. The infested area will then require treatment.

This is most commonly carried out using a Insecticidal spray treatment. Surfaces should be treated if possible depending on the situation and location.

Any fish tanks and any other pets must be removed from the room/property during treatment. You will need to remain out of the property for at least three hours afterwards.
